Personal Stories

More than 100,000 Minnesotans live with brain injury. Often, persons who live with brain injury, including the loved ones who sustain a brain injury, struggle with feelings of isolation and depression. To help other persons with brain injury and their families, a number of people have come forward to share their stories. The Association also welcomes stories from professionals in the field who would like to share their unique experiences with brain injury.

My Date With Fate: A brief story about a person who sustained a traumatic brain injury.

Who Am I: A survivor of traumatic brain injury questions their identity.

Life's Journey: A young woman explores the human perception of the concept of "life" and how that perspective was altered after she regained consciousness after being in a coma.

Surviving, Relearning and Living: A woman shares her experience with spirituality after sustaining brain injury.

My Closest Friend: Some individuals who sustain traumatic brain injury undergo personality changes. This individual discusses his experience.

How Gwyn Found Herself: A story of a woman who sustain brain injury as a young child.

Tribute To My Everyday Heroes: A survivor shares her stream-of-consciousness account of her injury, trip to the hospital and long road towards recovery.
