Survivor Stories"Rick Bohenkamp": Rick and his family were in a serious car crash. All three of his children sustained traumatic brain injuries. Two daughters, Elizabeth and Corina, died while daughter Emily lives with a brain injury. Rick's wife sustained other injuries. This video is the story of Emily and her acute stage of recovery. "Rob Wells": This video tells the story of Rob's rehabilitation, community re-entry and return to home and school as a Bloomington teenager who sustained a brain injury in a skiing accident. Extensive interviews with Rob and his sister are extremely insightful regarding the effects of brain injury. (30 minutes, KMSP TV, 1988. "In Between Dances - The Story of Courage": A championship dancer's inspirational struggle toward recovery. Includes medical footage and insights into brain injury and the devastating effects on family and friends. (30 minutes, Quanah Productions, 1998)
"Journey from Flanders": A follow-up to the video, Broken Rhymes, that shows the lives of individuals with brain injury years later. This video shows how brain injuries affect each person differently during time. Useful alone or as a sequel to Broken Rhymes.
"Twin Cities Live": Bob Bruce interviews Beverly Slater, author of "A Stranger in My Bed." Beverly's brain injury caused amnesia along with other problems. This true story was made into a TV movie with the same title starring Lindsey Wagner. Local persons with brain injury, family members and Robert Karol, Ph.D., neuropsychologist are featured in the second half of the show.
"We've Been There": Persons with brain injury eloquently tell their stories, some of who were injured many years ago. They describe the after-effects of TBI, including symptoms of fatigue, social isolation and depression. "20/20 Story of Randy": Randy had surgery to remove nearly half of her brain because of severe epilepsy. this film shows how aggressive treatment helped her recovery. (20 minutes, ABC News, 1997)
