Position Summary: Under the guidance of the Development Officer, the Development Intern performs a variety of marketing, fundraising, event planning, research and administrative duties to support the financial development of the Brain Injury Association of Minnnesota. Priority project for Spring 2007 will be the Annual Brain Injury Conference. This internship can be arranged for credit.
Annual Conference Responsibilities:
- Research new sponsors/attendees in the Dakotas, Iowa and Western Wisconsin using the internet and by connecting with state agencies
- Research foundation grant opportunities for support
- Coordinate with exhibitors and education department and organize conference day needs
Other Responsibilities:
- Research foundation funding opportunities and assist in grant applications
- Assist in creating and implementing a March membership drive
Qualifications: Junior or Senior pursuing a degree in Business, Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Financial Development, Nonprofit Management or related field. Reliable, outgoing individual with outstanding computer and organization skills. Ability to work with others, manage multiple priorities and follow a project through to completion. Sales, marketing, customer service or event experience helpful.
Time Commitment: 140 hours total (approximately 12 hours per week), primarily weekday hours but some early evening hours are also available.
Benefits: A $500 stipend upon completion of internship. Gain professional fund raising, grant writing and event organizing experience. Become familiar with working in a nonprofit setting. Position Summary: Under the guidance of the Education Coordinator, the Education Intern performs a variety of activities to enhance the quality of life and bring the promise of a better tomorrow for all people affected by brain injury. This unpaid internship can be arranged for credit.
Responsibilities: The Intern may develop presentations for youth and adults, work on various aspects of conference planning, do outreach for support groups or conduct literature reviews and background research on safety topics. There are a variety of duties and opportunities and responsibilities will vary depending on the interest of the Intern and organization's workload.
Qualifications: Position is open to juniors or seniors who have completed some coursework in education, health or social work. Organized, good communicator with basic computer skills, including PowerPoint. Research and presentation skills preferred. An interest in nonprofit organizations is a plus.
Time Commitment: We offer a flexible schedule and number of hours to satisfy the school's internship requirement. We ask for a minimum of one term with 8+ hours per week, primarily weekday hours but a few early evening hours may also be available.

Position Summary: The External Relations Intern performs a variety of outreach and event management activities that support the mission of the Brain Injury Association of Minnesota. The Intern acts as a liaison between the Association and a variety of external partners and helps strengthen these relationships. The Intern is supervised by the Education Manager. This unpaid internship can be arranged for credit.
Responsibilities: Projects will include various aspects of planning the Brain Injury Association of Minnesota Annual conference including:
- Assist with event planning and management for the Annual Conference
- Plan logistics for conference prep and the day of conference
- Improve our outreach to and attendance at health and resource fairs
- Update website content
- Support Education Manager in preparation of Annual Conference
Qualifications: College student interested in Communications, Business and event planning and management. Outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills are required along with basic computer skills and transportation. Comfortable multi-tasking and contacting people by phone. Sales experience helpful but not required. Willing to learn new things and have fun.
Time Commitment: We offer a flexible schedule and number of hours to satisfy the school’s internship requirement. We ask for a minimum of one term with a minimum of 10 hours per week, primarily weekday hours but some early evening hours may be available. Attendance at the Annual Conference is preferred.

Position Summary: Under the guidance of the Latino Outreach and Multi-Cultural Outreach Coordinators, the intern performs a variety of activities to enhance the quality of life and bring the promise of a better tomorrow for all people affected by brain injury. This unpaid internship can be arranged for credit.
Responsibilities: The intern will develop informational materials and attend health fairs and meetings for several underserved communities and communities of color. He/she will also help the Outreach Coordinators prepare for outreach activities and follow up with new contacts from diverse communities. There are a variety of duties and opportunities depending on the interest of the Intern and organization's workload.
Qualifications: Position is open to sophomores, juniors or seniors who have completed some coursework in sociology, public health, social work or a related field. Requires organized, good communicator who is able to adapt to changing needs and demands. Must be comfortable working with diverse communities. Foreign language skills and /or interest in brain injury a plus. Transportation required.

Position Summary: Under the guidance of the Public Policy Director, the Public Policy Intern will assist with strategic organizing, monitoring legislation and coordinating direct and grass-roots lobbying activity. This position will be focused on preparing organizational advocacy efforts prior to the opening of the legislative session on March 1, 2006, then attending committee hearings, tracking legislation and coordinating advocacy activity during the session. This internship can be arranged for credit and is based at the Association office in Northeast Minneapolis and the State Capitol in St. Paul.
Responsibilities: Under the guidance, direction and supervision of the public policy director:
Qualifications: Previous experience with or knowledge of disability issues and/or experience with the legislative process. Student pursuing a degree in Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Public Health, Public Policy or related field. Interest in advocacy for persons with disabilities. Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong record keeping and note taking skills. Reliable and able to commit for entire semester. Transportation required.
Time Commitment: Must be available weekday afternoons. We ask for a minimum time commitment of 140 hours total (one term approximately 10 hours per week) primarily weekday hours but some evening and weekend hours may be needed.
Benefits: $500 stipend and transportation reimbursement. The Public Policy Intern will receive training, guidance and feedback in order to develop professional public policy skills. He/she can develop legislative contacts, learn how to track policy issues related to people with disabilities, and become familiar with working in a nonprofit setting and at the Capitol. Position Summary: Under the guidance of the Case Manager Coordinator (LSW), the Social Work Intern helps monitor and implement comprehensive, proactive, consumer-directed systems of support and advocacy for individuals of all ages and cultures, who have survived brain injury, and their families.
Responsibilities: The Social Work Intern works with a broad spectrum of consumers, including persons with traumatic brain injury, chemical dependency and/or mental illness. Assist the consumer in planning and accessing housing, financial supports and other community services and supports needed for effective community integration. The Brain Injury Association of Minnesota is contracted with Hennepin and Ramsey Counties to provide case management and relocation services to people on TBI and CADI waivers. A small case load and all of the job duties of a Case Manager are components of this internship.
Qualifications: Senior pursuing an undergraduate degree in Social Work. Self-motivated, independent, organized and able to multi-task. Car/travel required, although intern will not transport clients. Valid driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance required. Must pass criminal background check. Interest in brain injury is a plus.
Time Commitment: We offer a flexible schedule and number of hours to satisfy the school's internship requirement, but prefer 3-4 days a week for one semester, beginning January or February.
Benefits: The intern will develop assessment skills, gain experience with care planning, working with service providers, individuals and families, and gain experience with county-level paperwork and funding. Position Summary: Under the guidance of the Volunteer Coordinator, the Volunteer Program Intern performs a variety of recruitment, placement, training and administrative duties to support our program, administrative and event volunteers.
Responsibilities:
- Volunteer recruitment, including conducting needs assessments, developing new position descriptions, updating postings, and doing outreach to schools, businesses and community organizations
- Coordinate training, recruitment and tracking processes for Volunteer Speakers Bureau...Provide guidance, leadership and oversight of volunteers working on the web service directory project. This includes recruiting volunteers, calling service providers and working with staff to develop a comprehensive, useful service directory
- Support staff working with volunteers and promote professional development of volunteer management skills
- Volunteer program administration, including updating databases, files, and reports and preparing for trainings and meetings
Qualifications: Minimum Junior pursuing a degree in Human Services, Social Sciences, Communications, Nonprofit Management or related field. Outgoing individual with outstanding computer and organization skills. Ability to work with others, manage multiple priorities and follow a project through to completion. Ability to protect the confidentiality of consumer data. Interest in brain injury or disability issues a plus. Non profit experience helpful.
