Unmasking Brain Injury
Explore your creative side and help raise brain injury awareness with Unmasking Brain Injury! This community-based project will promote awareness about brain injury through mask displays made by people affected by brain injury. Combining therapy, art and advocacy, each mask will present an entirely unique perspective on life with brain injury and will give survivors, care givers and professionals a voice and the means to educate others of what it is like to live with brain injury.

Are you interested in making a mask and sharing your brain injury story? Join us on Wednesday, August 17 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at our office in Roseville for our next Unmasking Brain Injury Painting Event. Please RSVP by calling 612-378-2742 or 800-669-6442.

Medical Assistance "Campaign Literature" Can Educate Potential Policymakers
Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance Citizen Advocates came up with a unique and creative strategy at a recent Citizen Advocate Academy brainstorming session. Disappointed about legislative inaction on the MA Spend-down issue we were looking for ways to make this a higher funding priority for Minnesota lawmakers. With the 2016 elections on the horizon this November and all 201 legislative seats on the ballot our Advocates wanted to be more proactive than simply waiting for the election results and then getting to work.

Looking for ways to inject the MA Disability Reform issue into political campaigns and lay the groundwork for the 2017 budget making session, they said, "Why wait for candidates to hand us their campaign literature, let's give them ours." So we have created our own "MA Campaign Lit" to pass out to political candidates who will be looking for your vote in November. Next time a candidate or one of their volunteers knocks on your door, next time you go to a parade, fair or other community event where candidates are looking for your vote; turn the tables and ask them what they are willing to do for people with disabilities who depend on MA if they get elected!

We have the MA Campaign lit printed and ready to go! Click here for a preview.

Contact Erica Schmiel at 612-378-2742 or 800-669-6442 if you would like some to share with those looking for your support in November.
